Virginia Raspberries

Interested in our Now in Season pick, the raspberry? The shot was taking at the Agriberry table at the St. Stephen's Market. If you'd like to try growing your own it's not difficult. There are fall blooming, and even thorn-less varieties out there. However, some say that flavor was sacrificed for the sake of less painful picking. While red raspberries perform best in central Virginia there are many different types. All are categorized by the color of the fruit that ranges from yellow to black!
The time of year for planting raspberries is a ways off, but check out this great resource from Cooperative Extension for more on varieties, and growing information for Virgina.
For now you can just grab some at the market. Agriberry offers CSA pick up, and direct sale at several locations around Richmond.
